Michael Ferrari’s Born to Fly is a rousingly old-fashioned war-at-home story in which two children, Bird and her Japanese American friend Kenji, become convinced there is a spy in their small Rhode Island town. Young readers will take great satisfaction in learning that this far-fetched proposition is in fact true. Good detailing of characters and setting prevents the story from going too far over the top.
